There’s this episode where Lumpy Rutherford bullies Wally and Beav……. Now, how would you rather start your day, hearing about how Wally applied for a lifeguard job only to find out when he got to the lake that he wasn’t old enough to be a lifeguard but was offered a job selling hot dogs instead and then Ward and June and Beaver along with some of Beav’s friends surprised Wally by going to the lake unannounced to see him as the lifeguard only to witness him hawking red hots? Or, would you rather watch the news to see a woman demand an apology because of her “right” to wear a Fuck Cancer t-shirt in public? Back to back Beavers will put a spring in your step. If they want to say it or display in public…Fuck You. However, this is the atmosphere we live in now, everybody has 1st Amendment rights no matter how cockeyed or off base or crude their viewpoint is. When I mentioned a particular episode to Leslie recently she said at that same time I was watching the Beav her husband Tim was watching a news channel covering a story about a woman who wanted an apology from American Airlines because they asked her to cover up a t-shirt she was wearing on the plane that said “fuck cancer.” Tim was put off by this woman’s attitude in that he too is dealing with cancer but wouldn’t parade around this kind of vulgarity in public. Nope, at that time of the day I’m going back to the late 50’s and early 60’s and enjoying the time when Beaver got a pet monkey or when Beaver pulled in a stray canoe drifting on Friend’s Lake. Now that’s the way to start your day, not watching those network morning shows where the people on the show pretend they’re your friends and then interview some celebrity about blah, blah, blah.

Yes, back to back viewings of Leave It to Beaver on the syndicated TV channel MeTV. Here’s what I’ve found to be helpful during covid…back to back Beaver. As plans for Leave It To Beaver moved forward, the showrunners needed the cast in California right away, including Ward Cleaver.
During the early days of the show, filming moved quickly into production after CBS purchased the pilot episode. The obvious go-to elixirs to satisfy that itch would be food or alcohol but consuming large quantities of either over a year would probably lead to a greater depression than the pandemic has brought on. Ward Cleaver blamed the sitcom for a tragic death in his family. “And I was just sitting there going like… ‘Wow, adults are really weird.I’m guessing that you, like me, over the past year have been looking for anything or anyway that gives you comfort or escape. “He was the guy – and I swear to God, I remember this so well – he was so nervous one time directing as we were behind, he lit a cigarette and put it into his mouth the wrong way,” Talbot recalled. In addition to directing “Leave It to Beaver,” he also directed more than 30 films, including Shirley Temple movies and “Kentucky,” for which Walter Brennan won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He came from a family of actors and was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Come on guys, run, run.’”īutler was an actor, director, producer and screenwriter who died in 1979.
The kids are leaving in 20 minutes and we got 40 shots to shoot. And he was always saying, ‘We’re behind, guys. But he was always probably the most nervous person.
